A former female employee is filing a civil rights claim in federal court against Pennsylvania-based NextGen Healthcare Information Systems. The plaintiff filed a suit on April 12 alleging that she was terminated last April for taking time off for medical appointments related to an eating disorder.

Online news sources like the Pennsylvania Record state that the woman who filed the complaint was offered employment by NextGen last January. After she was hired, she was informed that she would be working 40-hour weeks and be given one hour every day for lunch. At a meeting between the plaintiff and her boss, the topic came up that the former employee planned twelve appointments during the work day less than approximately three months into her new job.

The complainant met with an individual in the human resources (HR) department to voice her concern after the talk she had with her manager. She explained to the HR worker that not only was she forced to work more than 40 hours a week, but she was hardly given the chance to run out to buy food to eat. The plaintiff was purportedly not provided with any additional compensation for overtime. She claims those demands set by her supervisor prevented her from meeting with her physician.

As a result of her job, she experienced emotional distress and is seeking compensatory and punitive damages.
